Reformation and Modernism

January 16, 2013

Reality is complex and evanescent, yet we remain sons of Adam and daughters of Eve,who aspire to reduce it all to a stable order. After all, if we can name it, we must be its masters. If we can name it, we must have power over it.

And this is Modernism. And this is The Reformation. “Until you name it, you can’t tame it,” is its theme; no more than an attempt to shepherd the vapor of God’s Word—a grasping at divinity. If we are so certain that man is totally depraved, does it not follow that our theology can be flawed?

Praise the Lord.
